Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and City Tour
Upon arrival in Kigali, you will be welcomed by your professional driver-guide for a briefing about your safari. Depending on arrival time, enjoy a guided Kigali city tour visiting cultural sites, historical landmarks, and local markets.
Kigali is known for its cleanliness, safety, and vibrant culture, offering a great introduction to Rwanda.
Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, drive north to Volcanoes National Park. The journey passes through scenic rolling hills, farmland, and local communities.
Arrive at your lodge near the park and relax while preparing for gorilla trekking the next day.
Drive Time: Approximately 2.5 Hours
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
After early breakfast, transfer to Kinigi headquarters for briefing and assignment of a gorilla family. Begin your trek into the rainforest with experienced rangers.
The trek may take between 1 to 6 hours depending on gorilla movement. Once located, spend one hour observing them in their natural habitat.
Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park in southwestern Rwanda. The journey is long but scenic, passing tea plantations and hills.
Arrive and check into your lodge near the rainforest.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking and Canopy Walk
Early morning chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest. Search for habituated chimpanzee families deep in the rainforest.
Later, enjoy the canopy walk suspended above the forest for breathtaking views.
Day 6: Transfer to Akagera National Park
After breakfast, drive to Akagera National Park in eastern Rwanda. Enjoy an afternoon game drive upon arrival.
Spot elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and possibly lions.
Day 7: Game Drive, Boat Safari and Return to Kigali
Early morning game drive followed by a boat safari on Lake Ihema to see hippos, crocodiles, and birds.
After the safari, return to Kigali for airport drop-off or hotel stay, marking the end of your safari.
