Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport or pickup from your hotel, you will meet your safari driver-guide for a briefing about your Rwanda primate adventure. Depending on arrival time, enjoy a short Kigali city tour visiting cultural sites, local markets, and historical landmarks.
After the city experience, begin your scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park in northwestern Rwanda. The journey takes approximately 2.5 hours and passes through beautiful rolling hills and rural landscapes.
Arrive at your lodge near the park in the evening, check in, relax, and prepare for your gorilla trekking adventure the next day.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing and registration. You will then be assigned a gorilla family and guided into the forest by experienced rangers.
The trek can last from 1 to 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. The hike takes you through bamboo forests, volcanic slopes, and dense vegetation while offering chances to see birds and other wildlife.
Once the gorillas are located, spend one unforgettable hour observing them as they feed, interact, and care for their young in their natural habitat.
Return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking and Return to Kigali
After breakfast, head back to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for briefing before starting your golden monkey tracking experience. These playful and rare primates are found in the bamboo forests of the park and are known for their energetic behavior and beautiful golden-orange fur.
The trek is generally easier and shorter than gorilla trekking, allowing more time to observe and photograph these fascinating animals.
After the experience, return to the lodge for lunch and then begin your drive back to Kigali. Upon arrival, you will be dropped at your hotel or Kigali International Airport for your departure flight, marking the end of your safari.
