Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport or pickup from your hotel, you will meet your professional driver-guide for a briefing about your safari. Depending on your arrival time, enjoy a guided tour of Kigali, Rwanda’s vibrant capital city.

During the city tour, visit selected landmarks, local markets, art centers, and cultural attractions that provide insight into Rwanda’s history and remarkable development. Kigali is widely regarded as one of Africa’s cleanest and safest cities.

After lunch, depart Kigali and travel north toward Volcanoes National Park. The scenic drive takes you through Rwanda’s beautiful countryside characterized by terraced hills, farming communities, and spectacular mountain views.

Upon arrival near the park, check into your lodge and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Spend the evening relaxing while preparing for the exciting gorilla trekking experience scheduled for the following day.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Wake up early and enjoy breakfast before transferring to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi for registration and briefing by experienced park rangers.

During the briefing, you will learn about gorilla behavior, conservation efforts, and the trekking guidelines designed to protect these endangered primates. You will then be assigned to a specific gorilla family and accompanied by experienced guides and trackers into the forest.

The trek may take between one and several hours depending on the location of the gorillas. As you hike through bamboo forests, dense vegetation, and volcanic slopes, your guides will point out various bird species, wildlife, and fascinating plant life.

Once the gorilla family is located, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing them in their natural habitat. Watch silverbacks supervise their families, mothers care for their young, and playful juveniles interact around the group.

After the trek, return to the lodge for relaxation, storytelling, and celebration of this incredible wildlife experience.

Day 3: Mount Bisoke Hiking Adventure

After an early breakfast, return to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for registration and briefing before beginning your Mount Bisoke hiking adventure.

Mount Bisoke rises to an elevation of approximately 3,711 meters and is one of the most popular volcanoes within the Virunga Mountain range. The hike takes you through beautiful bamboo forests, montane vegetation, and volcanic terrain while offering opportunities to spot birds and other wildlife.

As you gain altitude, the scenery becomes increasingly spectacular with panoramic views of surrounding volcanoes and the Rwandan countryside. The trek is moderately challenging and usually takes between six and eight hours depending on weather conditions and hiking pace.

Upon reaching the summit, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the stunning crater lake that occupies the volcano’s summit. Take time to rest, enjoy photography, and appreciate one of Rwanda’s most remarkable natural wonders.

Descend back to the starting point and transfer to your lodge for a well-deserved evening of relaxation.

Day 4: Return to Kigali and Departure

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast while taking in the final views of the Virunga Mountains. Depending on your departure schedule, you may choose to explore the surrounding area or simply relax at the lodge.

Later, begin the drive back to Kigali through Rwanda’s beautiful countryside. Upon arrival in the city, you may enjoy last-minute shopping for souvenirs or a brief stop at local attractions if time permits.

You will then be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your onward flight or dropped off at your preferred hotel, marking the end of your memorable Rwanda adventure.
