Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Upon arrival in Kigali, you will be welcomed by your safari guide for a briefing and optional city tour depending on arrival time. Visit selected cultural sites, local markets, and historical landmarks that showcase Rwanda’s transformation and vibrant culture.
After lunch, begin your scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park in northwestern Rwanda. The journey passes through rolling hills, farmland, and stunning countryside landscapes.
Arrive at your lodge in the evening, relax, enjoy dinner, and prepare for gorilla trekking the following day.
Drive Time: Approximately 2.5 Hours
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
After an early breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing and registration. You will be assigned a gorilla family and guided into the forest by experienced rangers.
The trek can last between 1 to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorillas. As you hike through bamboo forests and volcanic slopes, enjoy sightings of birds, monkeys, and breathtaking scenery.
Once the gorillas are found, spend one magical hour observing them in their natural habitat as they interact, feed, and care for their young.
Return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, depart Volcanoes National Park and drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park in southwestern Rwanda. The journey is long but scenic, passing through tea plantations, rolling hills, and rural landscapes.
Arrive in Nyungwe in the evening and check into your lodge located near the rainforest.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking and Canopy Walk
Early morning chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest. The trek takes you through dense rainforest in search of habituated chimpanzee groups.
Later, enjoy the famous Nyungwe canopy walk suspended above the forest, offering incredible views of the treetops and wildlife below.
Return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 5: Transfer to Akagera National Park
After breakfast, drive to Akagera National Park in eastern Rwanda. Arrive and enjoy an afternoon game drive where you may spot elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and possibly lions.
Akagera offers classic savannah scenery and is Rwanda’s only Big Five national park.
Day 6: Game Drive, Boat Safari and Return to Kigali
Early morning game drive followed by a boat safari on Lake Ihema, where you can see hippos, crocodiles, and water birds.
After the safari activities, begin your drive back to Kigali for airport drop-off or hotel stay, marking the end of your Rwanda primates and wildlife safari.
